Believe me, I know it can be an absolute headache to stay on a healthy eating plan with a busy work schedule, but I’m going to help you out. No, this isn’t another article aimed at beating you over the head to eat healthier; we’ve got way too many of those around already. I simply want to give you simple, practical, and convenient ways to close a lot more deals on healthy eating. Just look at it as me helping you make your second job (eating) a lot easier. Here are three ways to help you eat healthier with a busy work schedule, now all you have to do is “fit” them in.
Put It in The Schedule – Although this is not a fix all, scheduling your eating times just like your work appointments is a huge help. When scheduling appointments, meetings, and other things, make sure you include specific times to eat. Make sure you allow extra time between your appointments to eat, and if you’re going to be out of town or on the road for business, research healthier eating places before you go. If you are staying in a hotel for several days, ask for a room with a kitchenette or at least a microwave and refrigerator so you can buy food and cook it in your room. Or you could just prepare your food ahead of time.
Prepare Your Food Ahead of Time – We all know how appointments, meetings, and projects can take on a life of their own and last way too long. This causes everything else you had planned for that day to be rushed, pushed back, and rescheduled, making the entire work week fast and furious. One sure way to make sure you don’t get wrangled into another fast food lunch is to have your food with you. For me, it’s a life saver because I travel a lot for my presentations and with traffic being what it is, sometimes I have to pull over and eat my meal in my vehicle to stay on time. I know preparing your food takes time and can be the last thing you want to do at night, but it will pay huge dividends for you; as long as you don’t miss any appointments.
Don’t Cancel Appointments – It’s never a good idea to cancel a business appointment and the same thing goes for skipping a meal. The whole point of scheduling your eating times and taking your food to work is to avoid having to eat unhealthy food and to not miss any meals. I know how unpredictable work schedules can be and how hectic a work day and week can be, but if you stick to your eating appointments like you do your work appointments, you’re going to make it work. You may end up eating while you work, but that’s a lot healthier than not eating at all.
When it comes down to it, eating really is a business decision. Many people spend a lot of time at work, and when they get home, there’s even more business to tend to. I know it’s easier just to eat fast food or eat whenever you get a break, but if you’ll start applying these things I’ve mentioned, you’ll see how much easier you can make it on yourself. Making money, paying bills, and having job security are indeed very important, but keeping yourself healthy and productive in all parts of your life by eating well is the best business decision you’ll ever make.
